Nigeria: NSCDC Deploys 150 Personnel to Benue Mining Sites

Makurdi — The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Benue State has deployed 150 of its personnel to secure various mining locations within the state.

State commandant of NSCDC, Ugwumba Andrew, said yesterday at a news conference in Makurdi, that the personnel were to ensure the safety of solid minerals critical infrastructure while monitoring activities of miners and operators in the industry.
Andrew also said that the move was meant to check illegal mining activities and to enforce the efficiency of operators in line with global practises where royalties as well as taxes are paid to appropriate agencies in order to enhance growth and economic development.

He urged miners to streamline and perfect their operational activities to ensure safety of lives, property and the environment.
