The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), said
on Friday it requires about N20 billion to upgrade its equipment and
systems at the nation’s international airports in order to align with
current global best standards and ensure seamless facilitation for
airport users.
The disclosure by the Customs
Comptroller General, Col. Hammed Ali (rtd.), came on a day the Minister
of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, inspected facilities used by the NCS at
the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja and expressed the
federal government’s determination to support the Service in bringing
its equipment up-to-date.
Ali stated that the equipment presently
used by the Customs were short of the expected requirements for
efficient and fool-proof operations at the airports.
He expressed confidence that upgrading
the equipment and systems of the NCS at the airports would boost
efficiency, increased revenue generation and better service delivery.
He disclosed that about N20 billion was required to upgrade Customs facilities at the international airports across the country.
Speaking on the facilities used for its
operations, the minister said her inspection visit was to assess the
technology used by the Customs to see the possibility of providing
modern technology to enhance efficiency at the airport.
